Comedian Roasts Politically Active Hollywood During Golden Globes
Hollywood kicked off its award season with a controversial bang on Sunday night via the Golden Globes. Presenter Ricky Gervais mixed himself into politics when he called out actors and actresses for their propensity to lecture where they have no authority.
"Apple roared into the TV game with 'The Morning Show,' a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing made by a company that runs sweatshops in China," Gervais said.
"So you say you’re 'woke', but the companies you work for, Apple, Amazon, Disney... If ISIS had a streaming service you would be calling your agents."
The comedian poked fun at all manner of taboo issues, including racism, pedophilia and the lack of concern shown by those in attendance about any issue that wasn’t linked to something politically correct.
Gervais even took aim at the stars who were close to the late sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein, saying that Epstein didn’t kill himself.
"Shut up, I know he’s your friend but I don’t care,” Gervais said after groans from the crowd.
The comedian also included recently incarcerated Felicity Huffman in his remarks:
"You all look lovely all dolled up, you came here in your limos. I came here in a limo and the license plate was made by Felicity Huffman," he. "It’s her daughter I feel sorry for. That must be the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to her. And her dad was in 'Wild Hogs,' so..."
Near the end of Gervais monologue he warned the actors and actresses who would be taking the stage not to make any politically “woke” “statements when they received their awards:
"You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything," he declared. "You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg."
